Movin' On
The Story
Writing music has never been the hard part for me. I can pick up a guitar and, within a few minutes, usually find a melody or progression I'm excited about. Lyrics are different. That's normally where I have to slow down, wrestle with my thoughts, and figure out what I'm actually trying to say.
“Movin' On” was the exception.
I wrote the music, lyrics, and recorded the first demo all within a few hours back in 2018.
On the surface, the song can sound like it's about walking away from a toxic relationship, but it was always meant to be bigger than that. We all have things that can keep us trapped — substance abuse, depression, unhealthy relationships, destructive habits, or simply versions of ourselves we've outgrown. I've experienced my share of those battles too.
This song is about finally reaching that moment when enough is enough. It's about deciding that whatever is holding you back doesn't get to own another day of your life.
Sometimes moving forward requires leaving something behind — and not looking back.
Lyrics
Agonized, I realized all the lies you tried to hide
My eyes are wide open again
Traumatized, demoralized, paralyzed I can't surmise
The path forward ahead
Cause the jig is up
You cannot disguise
There's nowhere to run,
No place to hide
It's over buttercup
You can no longer terrorize
I'm split wide open
Before the sun goes down
And the stars are shining bright
I'll be someone new
Leave you far behind
When the sun comes up
And the moon is outta sight
I'll be over you
You'll be outta my mind
I'm movin' on
No surprise, publicized, you advertise like a prize, you idolize
So endlessly devoted to yourself
You dramatize, demonize, and never tried to humanize
Your own emotions
Your time is up
You know all the whys
You've had your fun
So don't apologize
We're breaking up
I'll just say goodbye
The door's wide open
Before the sun goes down
And the stars are shining bright
I'll be someone new
Leave you far behind
When the sun comes up
And the moon is outta sight
I'll be over you
You'll be outta my mind
I'm movin' on
And if you ever have that day
When you think you can come back to me again
Try to get me thinking you've changed your ways
Take my advice just stay away
I'm movin' on
Justified, sterilized, I'm normalized, so revived my heart is
Wide open again
