We Make Our Own Luck
The Story
This song has probably had a million different versions of itself — lyrically, anyway. The music never changed, but I kept rewriting the words until just before making this album.
Eventually, I realized the story had been sitting right in front of me.
My wife is my ride or die.
Our confidence doesn't come from believing everything is always going to work out perfectly. Life has taught us better than that. It comes from knowing that whatever happens — the good, the bad, the unexpected — we'll face it side by side.
We don't need lucky pennies, wishes, four-leaf clovers, or perfect circumstances.
We've got each other.
We make our own luck.
Lyrics
You and me, we're gettin' outta this town
Taking chances, got no special place in mind
Stay up all night by my side
We got Willie singing, lovin' this feelin'
Our life, our time, we're just passin' on by
Bye bye, we'll see you on the other side
Just each other and this beat-up truck
We make our own luck
Blue lights flashing out of nowhere
Here we go, another adventure
Flash a smile, you talk us out of trouble
one more time, mmm so fine
Our life, our time, we're just passin' on by
Bye bye, we'll see you on the other side
Ain't gotta wish on no pennies, heads up
We make our own luck
Two sides of the same coin
Heads or tails, we'll always win
Rebels together, always forever
We're in this til' the very end
Crossing lines on a map
Looking up at the stars
There's nowhere, nowhere, nowhere that's too far
Ain't worried bout tomorrow, don't need yesterday
Just you and me and the games we love to play
Every wrong turn feels so right, babe
Long as we run together, baby we're ok
Our life, our time we're just passin' on by
Bye bye, we'll see you on the other side
Just each other and this beat-up truck
We make our own luck
