Walk Through Fire

The Story

“Walk Through Fire” was another one of those songs where the music and lyrics seemed to arrive at the same time. I could barely write them down fast enough.

Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship knows there are seasons when you don't feel as connected as you normally do. You get busy. Life gets complicated. Sometimes you find yourselves in a rut and neither person really knows how you got there.

I wrote this song during one of those seasons.

It was my way of saying: I know things aren't perfect right now, but I haven't forgotten the bigger picture.

Sometimes “I love you” doesn't feel big enough. The word love can mean a thousand different things. But telling someone you'd walk through fire for them leaves a lot less room for interpretation.

It means when things get hard, I'm still here.

When life gets ugly, I'm still here.

When loving you costs me something, I'm still here.

That idea became bigger than just this song. In a lot of ways, it represents the heart of the entire record — which is why Walk Through Fire became the title of the album.

Lyrics

That first day I met you
Hell it don't seem that long ago
And the first time I kissed you
I knew my heart would never let you go

Ain't it funny how time flies
Ain't it funny how things flow
I wouldn't trade it for the world
Or where this winding road goes

After all of this time
It's been one helluva ride
And even when things ain't just right
For you I'd walk through fire

Though sometimes there's a silence
And the distance between us grows
Don't you ever think for one moment
That our love has ever lost its glow

You are my girl
I want you to know
I wouldn't trade you for the world
That's the way our love grows

After all of this time
You're still the love of my life
And even when things ain't just right
For you I'd walk through fire

I'd walk through fire
